Mihai Zgondoiu (b. 1982 Romania) is an artist, curator, and independent gallery owner, with a PhD in Visual Arts from the National University of Arts in Bucharest (UNArte). He is currently a University Lecturer at UVT, Faculty of Arts and Design in Timișoara. He founded and coordinated the contemporary art gallery/space Atelier 030202 in Bucharest, and co-founded the art magazine PROPAGARTA.

Constantly focused on decoding the realms of Sci-Fi, the paranormal, popular studies in the area of mysteries, parallel and extraterrestrial worlds, universal and personal mythologies, Zgondoiu documents through his works the birth of hybrid and approximate worlds, as appropriate. He explores various media and artistic techniques with versatility, ranging from drawing, collage, and experimental print to video installations, performances, and urban interventions. His projects critically interrogate clichés of contemporary society, mocking false values and icons promoted through media and online social platforms. His interest in ecological thinking and practice often reflects a deepening awareness of human impact on the planet and the need to transform creativity into a catalyst for change.

Throughout his career, he has received numerous awards, including the Union of Plastic Artists of Romania (UAP) awards for “Art in Public Space” (2017) and the “Multimedia Award” (2022).

He has exhibited nationally and internationally in galleries, museums, and cultural institutions such as the National Museum of Contemporary Art (MNAC) Bucharest (RO), Kunsthalle Bega Timișoara (RO), Centrul de Interes, Cluj (RO), Museum of Recent Art (MARe) Bucharest (RO), KANAL Centre Pompidou, Brussels (BE), The Belfry – Montrouge (FR), BOZAR Centre for Fine Arts, Brussels (BE), Accademia di Romania, Rome (IT), The Art Building in Vra – Hjorring (Denmark), Museum of Decorative Arts in Viana do Castelo, Lisbon (PT), Museum of Young Art, Vienna (AT), and Museum Beelden Aan Zee, The Hague (NL).

His works are part of public and private collections, such as the National Museum of Contemporary Art (MNAC) Bucharest (RO), the “Luciano Benetton” Art Collection (IT), the “Alain Servais” Art Collection (BE), the “Avium” Art Collection (RO), the “Herczeg” Art Collection (RO), the “Daniel Ștefănică” Art Collection (RO), the “George Șerban” Art Collection (RO), the “Calina Foundation” Art Collection (RO), the “Pfizer Foundation” Art Collection (RO), the “Iacob Foundation” Art Collection (RO), etc.

He lives and works in Bucharest and Timișoara (RO).
